Implementation of Citizenship Amendment Act
Just weeks before the general elections, the Indian Government headed by Modi has decided to implement the CAA. The law was initially passed in 2019 and indirectly targets the Muslim minority in India. The CAA allows non-Muslim refugees safe haven and citizenship status once they cross Indian borders.
What could be the long-term implications of this act and why was it brought into the spotlight once again despite bring subjected to major rebuttal and negative feedback when it was introduced?
The reason is quite obvious, Modi and BJP's vote bank largely comprises of Hindu extremists. Modi once again wants to exploit Hindutava sentiment to win the May 2024 elections. However, such acts are tarnishing the social fabric of India.
@hamzaalvi I agree 100%. We met an individual belonging to the south of India, he said that people in his area do not vote for/support BJP. Yet because of rigging, BJP always wins. Basically they will do anything to stay in power. 😤
