Some Precious tips for Precis & Composition.

By: CSP Adnan Gul(Police Service Of Pakistan)
It is the easiest paper in css exam if handled carefully and strategically. The paper is divided into many sections which make it easier to pass. Aspirants must focus on each portion separately and give due time to each portion. The paper is divided into following sections:

1. Precis Writing: (20 Marks) (Practice once a week) Read basic rules of précis writing from Exploring the world of English by Saadat Ali Shah. Afterwards, aspirants must practice précis extensively as command over précis writing requires too much practice. Start with the easier passages and then solve at least ten passages of précis from past papers.

2. Reading and Comprehension: (20 Marks) (Practice two or three times during whole preparation) Once you get command over précis writing, reading and comprehension portion can be handled easily. But you must be cognisant of the basic rules of comprehension, and for that refer Saadat Ali Shah’s book and practice two to three passages from past papers.
3. Grammar and Vocabulary: (20 Marks) (Read on Daily Basis)
For Grammar, read Wren and Martin’s Book or Thomson and Martinet’s book solve exercises and check them.
Read rules of punctuation from Saadat Ali Shah’s book
For vocabulary, remember 10-20 words daily from GRE vocab list. Repeat these words on weekly and monthly basis.

4. Sentence Correction: (10 Marks) (Read on Daily Basis) Read “Correct Usage” part from Wren and Martin Book. Also read “some common errors in grammar” from Saadat Ali Shah’s book
5. Grouping of words: (10 Marks) (Read on Daily Basis)
This portion covers analogies, for that practice analogies tests from internet.

6. Pair of Words: (10 Marks) (Read on Daily Basis) Solve pair of words of past papers from 1971 to 2018 for this portion.

7. Translation: (10 Marks) (Practice twice a week)
Practice translation from Urdu to English and English to Urdu from Afzal Anwar Mufti’s Book
