Popular Conspiracy Theories About the September 11 Attacks

On September 11, 2001, just hours after the attacks, the first 9/11 conspiracy theories surfaced online. Since then, especially with the emergence of social media, they have grown in size and scope. These conspiracy theories have continued to circulate and reached a much broader audience as a result of the emergence of new conspiracy movements online. For instance, QAnon adherents hold the conspiracy theory that the US “deep state” was behind the attacks, among other conspiratorial viewpoints.

Introduction

Some believe that the US administration either planned the assaults or was aware of them beforehand and gave them permission. Furthermore, these lies are consistent with the notion advanced by more recent online movements that, in response to the attacks, international elites intend to restrict civil freedoms and promote the development of a totalitarian worldwide government.

Additionally, misinformation has been supported by online excerpts from the Loose Change film series. Some of the conspiracy theories about the September 11 attacks that are considered impossible to debunk are listed below.

The Theories

The unexplainable collapse of the World Trade Center 7. Supposedly, WTC 7 is the only tall steel building to have collapsed due to fire alone. However, after a three-year inquiry, it was determined in 2008 by the National Institute of Standards and Technology that the North Tower’s surrounding debris sparked, intense, and uncontrollable fires, which lasted for nearly seven hours, were the cause of the building’s collapse.

After two other hijacked flights hit the World Trade Center buildings and a third crashed into a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, on September 11, 2001, hijackers flew the American Airlines airliner into the southwest side of the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m. 59 passengers and crew members aboard the jet, as well as 125 people inside the Pentagon, also perished in the attack. 84 out of 85 videos of the Pentagon were seized by the FBI. The video that was eventually made public is incomplete and lacks an airplane.

On September 10, 2001, Donald Rumsfeld, who was then the U.S. defence secretary, admitted that his agency was unable to account for transactions totaling around $2.3 trillion. This shocking information was forgotten the day after the United States was the target of terrorist assaults that forever transformed the globe. Some suspect that the attacks were carried out to cover up this

Nanothermite was found in the dust at ground zero. This is a nano energetic material developed for use in military equipment, demolitions, and pyrotechnics. AE911Truth, a group of engineers and architects, states that “the evidence points overwhelmingly to the conclusion that all three buildings were destroyed by deliberate demolition.” Given the significant consequences, it is morally necessary for this idea to be the focus of thorough, unbiased research by appropriate authorities.

Firefighters’ testimonies of bombs and explosions were ignored afterward. The 9/11 commission report barred eyewitness accounts of explosions in the lobby and sublevel.

The towers were built to withstand Boeing jets hitting them. WTC head structural engineer, Leslie Robertson, said that the project was prepared for the effects of the Boeing 707, the largest aircraft at the time. The 767 that collided with the WTC was, however, heavier than the 707. Also, it was flying much faster. Furthermore, quite understandably so, the fuel load was not taken into account when designing the building.

The US’s history of staging false flag attacks. From the USS Liberty to the Gulf of Tonkin, the US has a history of faking attacks to create a pretext for war. This notion was further supported by Michael Moore’s documentary Fahrenheit 9/11, which contended that the US government, which is controlled by wealthy neo-conservatives, welcomed the tragedy in order to stir up support for a new Middle East war that was actually an economic and commercial struggle for oil access rather than a “war on terror.”

Conspiracy theorists have pointed to the fact that the 7 World Trade Center’s fall was reported live by BBC News correspondent Jane Stanley when it was still clearly standing behind her as proof that major media organisations were involved in the inside-job scheme. A BBC reporter, Richard Porter attempted to clarify this, saying, “In the chaos and confusion of the day, I’m quite sure we said things which turned out to be untrue or inaccurate – but at the time were based on the best information we had.”

To add more conspiracy theories, the fact that President Bush was being televised at the time of the September 11 attack is another instance that appears to ‘incriminate’ the American government. An aide may be seen whispering to President Bush as he reads the news about the attacks in New York while he is at a kindergarten class in Florida. It then appears that he continues reading the report. Conspiracy theorists contend that the president should not have reacted as quickly to the first attack since he was fully aware of what was happening, as implied in Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11.

The United States government’s resistance to conducting a thorough investigation at the time is cited by conspiracy theorists. At first, Vice President Dick Cheney was against digging into the terrorist attacks. His justification was that President Bush’s war on terrorism strategy would have to sacrifice personnel and resources. The fact that an official inquiry didn’t start for up to a year may have contributed to conspiracy theorists’ suspicions.

Conclusion

Experts claim that the dissonance that occurs when people learn that such catastrophic devastation was perpetrated by a very small group of individuals employing low-tech weapons is a contributing factor in the survival of such conspiracy ideas. The idea that the US government intentionally encouraged the Twin Towers to be destroyed in a Pearl Harbor-style reenactment is absurd and more reminiscent of a thriller with a conspiracy premise.

Before the devastating events on that fateful September morning, concerns about weak intelligence collecting and poor communication were more likely to be explained by ineptitude. As repeated conspiracy theories are methodically refuted with verifiable evidence by professionals, new information about the September 11 attacks and the response to those attacks continue to be made public.

Although there are viable explanations for most theories and aspects of the incident, it is likely that it shall remain the topic of much speculation for as long as history remembers it.
