On conclusion of 5 years of illegal revocation of Articles 370 and 35A by the Government of India, the National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) held a seminar titled “Kashmir Dispute: Latest Imperatives and Way Forward,” on 08 August 2024.

The seminar aimed to analyze the Kashmir dispute from historical, legal, and humanitarian perspectives to develop a comprehensive way forward. As the chief guest, Ms. Mushaal Hussein Mullick, a renowned human rights activist and former SAPM on human rights and women empowerment, graced the occasion.
The event featured distinguished speakers, including Ambassador Nadeem Riyaz, Mr. Altaf Hussain Wani, Advocate Mr. Ahmer Bilal Soofi, Dr. Asma Shakir Khawaja, Barrister Taimur Malik, and students from various think tanks and universities.

The speakers stressed the need to construct an effective legal narrative on Kashmir to engage the global audience as well as the youth, using established media houses to advance the Kashmir cause.
Ms. Mullick highlighted the continued human rights violations that are taking place in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK). She proposed establishing a legal cell in the foreign office to provide consistency in Kashmir policies.

The event successfully brought together scholars, policymakers, activists, and legal experts to ponder and proffer suggestions in this regard.
