Introduction to the SAT!
What is the SAT?
The SAT i.e. the Scholastic Aptitude Test or the Scholastic Assessment Test is a general entrance exam created and administered by the College Board. It is used for university admissions. It is a computer-based MCQ test.
The test was created to ensure that all the applicants have a common data point for them to be tested on. The applicants for these universities usually send a holistic application with their high school grades, admission statements and essays, letters of recommendation, reports of their extra-curricular activities, and any other requirements for admission. The weightage of SAT in the overall application scores differs with each university. Generally speaking, the higher the score, the more the chances of admission.
When is the best time to take the SAT?
Most students who are applying for universities start preparing at least a year before they take the exam, and quite a few of them attempt it 8-10 months before they graduate. This is because there should be enough time to retake the test just in case the scores are not as good as required. The SAT exam is offered nationally every year in August, October, November, December, March, May, and June.
