Asif Ali Zardari, currently serving as the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, was admitted to a private hospital in Karachi after his health deteriorated. The presidency and the Pakistan People’s Party have not issued any statements yet – however media outlets have reported that President Asif Ali Zardari was brought to Karachi from Nawabshah because of his ailing health. The media also reported that the President had complaints of fever and possible infections before being admitted.
According to other reports, President Asif Ali Zardari has undergone several medical tests, and doctors are currently monitoring his condition. A source close to the party informed a media outlet that the President “will be discharged soon”.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif contacted President Asif Ali Zardari to inquire about his health and sent him well wishes for a speedy recovery. As per the Press Information Department, Shahbaz Sharif’s message to Asif Ali Zardari was, “May God grant you complete health soon. The prayers of the entire nation are with you”. The Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori also called the President’s physician, Dr. Asim Hussain, to inquire about the President’s health.
There were also rumors that the President was being shifted to Dubai for treatment. However, senior Sindh minister Sharjeel Memon took to X (formerly Twitter) to deny these rumors and reassured the public that the President will make a full recovery soon.
President Asif Ali Zardari has had a series of health issues in the last couple of years. In October last year, he fractured his foot while deboarding a plane. In March of 2023, he had eye surgery in the UAE. In the year before that, he was admitted to Ziauddin Hospital in Karachi for a chest infection. At the time, many rumours were circulating on the internet about his health deteriorating seriously, but his physician, Dr. Asim, confirmed that the President was in good health. He was also diagnosed with COVID-19 in 2022, but reports confirmed that his symptoms were mild.
