NADRA Launches ‘Nishan Pakistan’ to Strengthen Secure Identity Verification and Boost Digital Economy
The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has unveiled Nishan Pakistan, a centralized digital identity verification platform designed to streamline and secure how individuals and organisations verify identities across Pakistan.
Unveiled under the Government of Pakistan’s Digital Economy Enhancement Project (DEEP), Nishan Pakistan replaces the previously fragmented system of manual or semi-digital identity checks with a unified web-based portal. The platform enables government bodies and authorised private sector entities to onboard services digitally, and access identity verification tools such as biometric authentication, demographic checks and secure login features — all from a single interface.
According to NADRA officials, the new platform consolidates multiple verification services — including multi-biometric (fingerprint and facial recognition), Verisys (demographic verification), Proof-of-Life APIs and Single Sign-On (SSO) — into one secure gateway, eliminating the need for repetitive paperwork and manual approvals. This development is expected to reduce verification delays and increase transparency, particularly for public sector programmes involving social protection and essential services.
The launch of Nishan Pakistan aligns with NADRA’s broader mandate to modernise Pakistan’s digital identity infrastructure and support the expansion of the country’s digital economy. By simplifying onboarding and compliance for key institutions such as banks, telecom operators and government departments, NADRA says the platform will strengthen data security and promote efficient service delivery nationwide.
