Introduction
Each state is marked by numerous historical buildings and monuments that represent the country’s cultural heritage. These buildings are trendy among its people and serve as tourist spots for them. Moreover, Pakistan is home to several historical buildings and monuments and Minar-e-Pakistan is one of them. It is also known as the Tower of Pakistan as well as the Minaret of Pakistan. his tower was made during the period between 1960 to 1968 on the site of the Lahore Resolution, which eventually led to the establishment of Pakistan in 1947. Hence, this tower showcases the ideological foundation of Pakistan.

Historical Background & Significance
Minar-e-Pakistan, located in the city of Lahore, was constructed to pay tribute to the Pakistan Resolution, initially known as the Lahore Resolution. The All India Muslim League passed the Lahore Resolution on 23rd March, 1940, at the Greater Iqbal Park, formerly Minto Park. Furthermore, this resolution was considered one of the most important events in the struggle for Pakistan. It symbolizes the first official call for a separate and independent homeland for the Muslims of British India. This tower is also significant because of its symbolic value, as it is designed in a way that demonstrates meaningful elements, incorporating Islamic architecture and calligraphic inscriptions.
Location
It is primarily located in the heart of Lahore’s Iqbal Park which increases its importance in people’s eyes. It is considered a vital symbol of Pakistan’s unity and solidarity because it was the place where the Lahore Resolution was passed. In the courtyard of Minar-e-Pakistan, the tomb of Hafeez Jalandhari is located. Several pivotal historical sites are also present near the tower, for instance, Gurdwara Dera Sahib, Badshahi Mosque, and Lahore Fort.
Construction & Architecture
Nasreddin Murat-Khan, a Russian-born Pakistani architect and civil engineer, was tasked to bring the vintage moment to existence. The tower was built between 1960 and 1968. The architecture of Minar-e-Pakistan is a blend of Mughal, Islamic, and current styles. A huge park, an artificial lake, and drizzling fountains are present around Minar-e-Pakistan. Crescents and stars are present on the tower symbolizing Pakistani culture.
The base of Minar-e-Pakistan is around 8 meters and is created like a flower. Majestically, rising into the sky as a 70-metre-tall tower, it is 62 meters above the ground. In addition, the diameter of the tower is 9.75 meters. However, the rostrum faces one of the most famous mosques in Pakistan, the Badshahi Mosque, and is composed of patterned tiles.

The base of the tower has four platforms and each platform has its unique composition. Uncut stones from Taxila are used in the construction of the first platform, representing the untiring efforts of Indian Muslims during the period of independence. Additionally, hammer-dressed stones were utilized for the second platform, representing the meticulous struggle for emancipation. The third platform is made of sculpted stones, demonstrating the progression of the movement of freedom. Last but not least, the fourth platform is composed of white marble, showcasing the victory of the freedom movement.
Significant Inscriptions & Engravings
Some of the important details of the Lahore Resolution are engraved on the stone mass of Minar-e-Pakistan and it is engraved in various languages such as Bengali, Urdu, and Arabic. On the other hand, different verses of the Holy Quran, along with 99 names of Allah, are engraved on numerous boards using inscriptions. The national anthem of Pakistan, in both Bengali and Urdu, and several paragraphs from the addresses of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah (RH) are carved on the boards of the landmark tower.

Political Importance
Minar-e-Pakistan holds several political gatherings of various political parties as the garden of the tower is utilized for conducting political assemblies as well as rallies. Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf has conducted 4 public gatherings in the Minar-e-Pakistan in the last decade. For instance, Imran Khan conducted an enormous public gathering on 21st April 2022 in the area. Whereas, other parties such as PMLN also conducted their gatherings there. Thus, Minar-e-Pakistan is used for political gatherings to raise the spirits of patriotism among its people. Thus, this gigantic tower, located in the middle of Iqbal Park, serves as the symbol of the blood and sweat that went into making this homeland.
Tourist Spot
Minar-e-Pakistan is one of the most famous tourist spots in the heart of Lahore and is very popular among the people because of its stunning architecture and rich history. Every year, thousands of people visit this towering monument to see the cultural beauty of Pakistan. At night, it is lit up with various colorful lights to attract the tourists.

Moreover, foreigners also visit this majestic place to grasp the incredible history of Pakistan and they are awestruck by seeing the magnificent architecture of this tower. As this tower is a symbolic representation of the nation’s sovereignty, cultural legacy, and unity, many people visit this place on national holidays, i.e. Independence Day and Pakistan Day, to celebrate their patriotism and to praise the struggles of their ancestors who fought hard to get a separate homeland.
Maintenance & Preservation Efforts
Minar-e-Pakistan is a vital historical monument that needs to be preserved for future generations. Since it represents the struggling efforts of our ancestors and is a symbol of strength and resilience, several efforts are being made to safeguard it. It is important to maintain the tower and keep it in good condition but as it is a huge monument and has a complex structure, it requires full attention and care.
Therefore, regular maintenance sessions are being held to clean the tower, paint it if required, and repair it in case of any damage. Thus, these efforts can help preserve it for the generations to come so that the incoming generations can learn the exceptional history of their country and applaud the efforts of their ancestors.

Minar-e-Pakistan is a renowned national monument of Pakistan constructed in 1968 to pay homage to the Lahore Resolution passed in 1940. It is a high tower with a flower-like base. In addition, it has a unique architecture which is an amalgamation of Mughal, Islamic, and contemporary styles. Different important passageways are engraved on the stones of the monument in numerous dialects such as Urdu, Bengali as well as Arabic. This monument has historical and cultural significance.
Minar-e-Pakistan is not just a monument but is an epitome of the resilience and sacrifices of those who played a significant role in the establishment of Pakistan. Several political gatherings take place in the massive ground of Minar e Pakistan. On the other hand, it also serves as a tourist destination for both the local people as well as foreigners. By visiting this place tourists can get to learn about Pakistan’s history and its architecture can serve as an eye opener to the people by providing a window into the state’s past. Thus, it is extremely important to preserve such monuments for the incoming generations so several efforts are being taken to maintain this iconic tower.
